About the Opportunity

Currently, Johnston Builders has an exciting opportunity for a Quality Control Manager to join our team in St. Albert, AB, or Whitehorse, YT on a full-time basis. Occasional travel to project sites will be required. 

In this role, you’ll lead the development and execution of quality assurance and control processes across a variety of commercial and light industrial construction projects in Western Canada. Reporting to senior leadership, you will work closely with project teams and site personnel to ensure compliance with regulatory codes, internal standards, and client expectations.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining QA/QC procedures company-wide
  • Conducting regular site inspections and audits to identify and resolve quality issues
  • Ensuring work complies with construction drawings, specifications, codes, and safety regulations
  • Reviewing and approving quality documentation including inspection reports and test results
  • Leading training and coaching initiatives on quality best practices and compliance
  • Collaborating with operations and safety teams to promote an integrated culture of quality
  • Supporting continuous improvement through defect analysis and corrective action tracking
  • Maintaining thorough records of quality activities for project closeouts and reporting
  • Working with site teams and subcontractors to proactively address quality concerns
  • Developing and maintaining Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs)
  • Utilizing QA/QC software tools such as Bluebeam, Autodesk Construction Cloud, and KPA
  • Traveling between offices and project sites as required to support active projects

More About You

To qualify, you will need a technical diploma or degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, and a minimum of 5 years of experience in a quality assurance or construction management role within commercial or institutional projects. 

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Certification in construction quality control or inspection (e.g., CQM, NCSO, Gold Seal, LEED)
  • Experience developing and managing Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs)
  • Certification as a Journeyman
  • Strong working knowledge of building codes, construction methods, and materials
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and QA/QC platforms such as Bluebeam, KPA, and Autodesk Construction Cloud
  • On-site inspection and reporting experience across multi-site projects
