About the Opportunity

Currently, Johnston Builders has an exciting opportunity for a Project Manager to join our team in Whitehorse, Yukon on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will be working out of Whitehorse on Johnston Builders’ diverse portfolio across Western Canada, while being propelled by an exceptional team of construction executives, superintendents, estimators, field and support staff that adheres to JBL’s core values. 

Some of your key responsibilities within this role will include:

  • Working closely with design-build team through project conception to project completion and communicating closely with planning departments and permit authorities
  • Coordinating and scheduling design and construction
  • Working closely with the project superintendent, project coordinator and project director to collaborate on all aspects of the project
  • Reporting on Job Cost - monitoring costs and budget to maintain or exceed estimated margin
  • Issuing subcontracts, purchase orders, and change orders, and detailing scope assessment to ensure inclusiveness
  • Conducting project site meetings and distributing minutes promptly
  • Working closely with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable personnel to ensure accurate and timely invoicing, payables, and change orders
  • Working closely with the Johnston Builders estimator to establish budget controls
  • Ensuring quality control and quality assurance during the construction duration
  • Collaborating with JBL safety officer to ensure work progresses in accordance with JBL safety program and OHS regulations
  • Communicating with the client on all aspects of the project relating to schedule, work coordination, progress billing and change orders
  • Ensuring work is conducted in accordance with Johnston Builders Operation Procedures Manual

More About You

In order to qualify for this role, you'll need at least 10 years of experience in the construction industry, with preferably at least 3 years of project management experience for a GC/Design-Builder, and a diploma or degree in Construction Engineering. An alternative mix of education and experience will also be considered for the right candidate. 

You must have a clear understanding of the Building Code, and the commercial and light industrial construction industry, with the ability to coordinate and oversee projects in the $500,000 to $30,000,000 range. A valid Class 5 Driver's License is required.

As our ideal candidate, you have a positive attitude along with excellent interpersonal skills and an eagerness to learn. You are a motivated self-starter with high attention to detail and accuracy, along with strong analytical and problem solving skills. Advanced verbal and written communication skills, along with effective organizational and time management expertise will ensure success in this role.  

Computer skills, including the ability to competently operate computerized job-costing, Bluebeam/Adobe ProX, PlanGrid, Office 365 (MS Teams, SharePoint, Excel, Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, MS project, and email at a proficient level) is required. Most importantly, you will have experience providing unparalleled service to clients and liaising with construction personnel. As such, you need to be a resourceful and confident problem-solver who can make assertive big-picture decisions for the benefit of the project and our clients.
